After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2002, Spencer Hecht began his path towards developing a boutique family law practice founded on principles of unmatched work ethic, comprehensive knowledge of the law, and the real practicalities of the family dynamic. Mr. Hecht’s extensive divorce and child custody experience, aggressive approach, and high rate of success, has allowed him and his firm to become a strong presence in Montgomery County and the surrounding counties in Maryland. A native of Montgomery County himself, Mr. Hecht resides in Montgomery County with his two sons. His firm is deeply rooted in the community. Mr. Hecht takes great pride not only in his trial experience and success, but the relationships he has formed with local judges, lawyers, and business owners throughout the years. After moving the firm from DC to Silver Spring in 2005, Mr. Hecht is committed to a long-term presence in the Metropolitan area. Virginia Joehl has focused her practice exclusively on contested family law litigation; including separation, divorce, marital property division, alimony, contested custody, use and possession of the family home, grand parent custody and access, modification and contempt/enforcement actions, pre and post nuptial agreements, child support and domestic violence. She is also a court appointed representative to children in contested custody cases. Ms. Joehl is a compassionate counselor and zealous advocate who uses her psychology background and training to better understand and serve her clients needs as they transition through changes in family structure. Ms. Joehl is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, Frederick Bar Association, Maryland State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Maryland Association for Justice as well as a past Inn of Court member. She has been a repeat speaker at the Rockville Commission for Women and volunteers with the Montgomery County Bar Foundation Pro Bono Program. Ms. Joehl is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Maryland and an active volunteer in her community and the City of Gaithersburg where she has resided and raised her family for more than fifteen years.

Jonathan Stepanuk graduated from the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Jonathan worked as a defense contractor near Naval Air Station Patuxent River in St. Mary’s County, Maryland supporting Naval Air and Naval Sea platforms. Following his time as an engineer, Jonathan attended the University of Baltimore School of Law. While in law school, Jonathan worked at a Baltimore law firm specializing in personal injury law. After graduation, Jonathan served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Jerome R. Spencer in the Circuit Court for Charles County. As a judicial law clerk, he assisted the Judge in all areas of domestic, contract, property, and criminal law and established a regional reputation of being a hard-working, dedicated, and enthusiastic attorney.
